Our Knowledge-Rich Curriculum

The Primary Knowledge Curriculum

The Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC) places “powerful knowledge” at the heart of learning, empowering children to acquire knowledge that takes them beyond their lived experiences. Through a deep respect of the traditions of each unique subject, the PKC recognises the identity of the disciplines that are studied. Our vision, and intent, was to create a specified, well-sequenced, and ambitious curriculum for all children.

What is a knowledge-rich curriculum?

At its core, a knowledge-rich curriculum enables all children, regardless of background, to be provided with the opportunities to succeed in later life. A knowledge-rich curriculum exposes children to ambitious content that has been highly specified and well-sequenced, leaving nothing to chance. Within schools, time is limited, and a knowledge-rich curriculum ensures that each precious moment will support children in acquiring the knowledge, skills and cultural capital that they will need to become well-educated citizens of the future.

Why Teach Knowledge?

How might it be applied in practice?

The PKC can be applied in any primary school context. We have hundreds of partner schools across the country, from large inner-city schools to small, rural schools with mixed aged classes. Whatever your context, we can work with you to embed the curriculum in a way that meets the needs of your unique school. Our curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum for England, and supports schools with supplementing the curriculum with local connections.
