English Year 2
What are the aims of the Year 2 English units?
Our Year 2 English units build on the important foundations laid in EYFS and Year 1, and provides a platform for our pupils to continue unpicking the concept of fiction and non-fiction literature. Through the PKC, pupils are instilled with the knowledge to develop their vocabulary and understanding of grammar. Each unit builds on our pupils’ understanding of purpose, audience, language, and layouts of texts.
What can teachers expect from our Year 2 English units?
Our Year 2 units guide pupils to apply knowledge obtained from our history, geography, and science curricula into writing outcomes. As well as introducing classical texts, traditional tales, folktales and modern literature.
The PKC English Year 2 units cover:
- Writing instructions: A Treasure Map
- Narrative: Issun Boshi
- Narrative: ‘Hansel and Gretel’
- Spoken word: ‘Malala’s Magic Pencil’
- Non-chronological report: Northern Europe
